Sinopsis
Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, a police inspector arrests him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells his life story in the slum where he grew up, of adventures on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he's loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals how he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When Jamal returns to answer the final question, the inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out.
My Comments
Pertama kali tau film ini jadi best picture di Golden Globe kemarin, terus terang gw terkejut. Prediksi pertama adalah The Curious Case of Benjamin Button bakal jadi raja di tahun ini, dan ternyata prediksi gw meleset oleh karena film yang 'sederhana' ini. Ini adalah contoh film yang sederhana tapi ditopang oleh semua unsur yang hampir sempurna. Dibanding Benjamin Button yang pamer special effect tapi agak2 kedodoran di tengah2 film, Slumdog Millionare kuat di sisi cerita, editing yang mulus, sinematografi yang indah dan tentu saja scoring yang mantap...ehh wait...itu hampir seluruh unsur dari sebuah film...it's very tasteful in every aspects:)
Seluruh cast jelas sama sekali tidak gw kenal, tapi akting mrk sungguh fresh, menyegarkan dan impresif. Sinematografi yang memotret sisi kumuh India tapi keliatan indah pada saat dituangkan ke layar lebar. Scoring ikut memperkuat, sentuhan India yang tidak dihilangkan oleh Mr. Boyle, begitu nge-blend dengan scene2 yang ada. Plot line yang flash back ditopang dengan editing yang mantap, sama sekali tidak membosankan. Genre Slumdog Millionaire mungkin termasuk drama-romantic, tapi sepanjang film kita akan dibuat terharu, tegang, sekaligus tertawa.
Verdict
Salah satu teman bilang 'this movie is set to be this year's Juno'...salah bro...film ini akan jadi yang terbaik...a must see movie this year...9/10
